About Michelle Blackwell

 

Born with natural aesthetic abilities, Michelle Blackwell has been immersed in the performing arts arena since childhood which has spanned many years and encompassed many artistic disciplines. 

As a native Washingtonian, its indigenous Gogo culture has also played a significant role in her life as a performing artist. Performing in venues throughout the DMV and east coast, in major events and her work with producer Chucky Thompson and DC rapper Non- Chalant, Blackwell has built a large and consistent following in the Washington DC area and abroad. 

Her latest project, “Gogo-Ish 1st Set” is Michelles 2nd all original Gogo album and includes work with Ghanaian renown artist “Epixode” and has spawned an ongoing collaboration with the Ghanaian celebrity which includes a program to teach Ghanaian youth about the Gogo culture and learn how to play instruments in the Gogo style and rhythm.  

Her 1st release “Body Of Work”, winner of 2019 DC Wammie awards “Best Gogo Album” is still a fan favorite for her base as her single “Enjoy Myself” continues to delight fans in the DMV and abroad. 

Performing with  some of the DC Metropolitan areas most talented artists and musicians, Michelle continues to be an ambassador for Gogo music outside of the DC’s Beltway a catalyst for the success of its unique and homegrown sound that she likes to call “Urban Gogo Soul”. And on her continued mission to see that Gogo culture is represebted on multiple artistic fronts, she has also penned Gogo's very first  Fiction Novel  "Love -n- Gogo" . Both the CD and Book are on sale now!!
